ICCOPS, Landscape, Natural and Cultural Heritage Observatory, was established in 1992 as ICCOPS - International Center for Coastal and Ocean Policy Studies with the aim of: - Serving as a point of reference for groups and experts in coastal- and ocean-related studies
- Carrying out research projects into all aspects of integrated coastal management
- Furthering international networking with similar institutions
- Promoting meetings to discuss current practices and future trends in sea use management
As a non-governmental organization, ICCOPS has the observer status for the Mediterranean Action Plan of the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP/MAP) and for the Commission on Sustainable Development of the United Nations Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC/CSD).
